Based in Florida, James Amps is an author, motivational speaker, and founder of AMPS International, LLC, which provides consulting and training services to a variety of organizations. Prior to founding his company, he was a communications officer in the U.S. Navy from 1980 to 1986. In addition, James Amps participated in the National Security Seminar (NSS) at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Since its inception in 1954, the NSS has given outgoing USAWC students a chance to critically assess a host of subjects related to national security. It is held over four days in early June and is the final major event for USAWC students prior to their graduation. On each day of the NSS, a special guest speaker addresses participants and provides them a general theme for their discussions.

A diverse group of roughly 160 distinguished NSS invitees like Mr. Amps, referred to as “new members,” engage with students in frank dialogues regarding important issues like globalization and military-civilian relations. These discussions include not only students and new members, but also USAWC faculty and members of its International Fellows program.
